FMQ Friday 4-27-2013

The last I have been busy trying to finish my Hugs & Kisses quilt top for Christa Quilts QAL. This quilt top has given me lots of problems, not because of Christa's instructions, because I chose a different layout. My dyslexia kick into high gear and I kept placing bow ties in the wrong direction, but I persisted.

Here you can see some of the progress including the cute Bee Bow Tie. And then here is what I thought was the completed top!, until it has been pointed out to me there are 2 mistakes in the layout. Can You spot them? If you see more then 2 please let me know. In the mean time, I am setting this aside for a bit before I try to fix it.

In the mean time I will continue to work on my Diamond Rail Fence found at Missouri Star Quilt Company

All my blocks are made so it is time to assemble them into a queen size top.

International Quilt Day

Today I am working on two projects (UFO's)

1. Diamond Rail Fence from Missouri Star Quilt Company

I am sewing 6.5 in. blocks together to get 12.5 in. blocks. Then I can start putting the top together.

2. This one is a Quilt Along from Christa Quilts called Hugs and Kisses. I am using strips I cut last summer so I am calling it a UFO . This week we are subcutting the strips.

I have a lot of cutting left to do, then I can start making the Bow Ties. She has a give away with this quilt sew come join in!

FMQ Friday 3/15/2013

I finished two of the projects I listed last week.

I think my little mug rug turned out pretty good.

Finally got all the hand stitching completed on the binding. About one fourth of the back is the fabric left over from the piecing. It is kind if neat to wind up, basically, with a double quilt. I just quilted straight lines with my walking foot. It is made from flannel so it is soft and cuddly.

FMQ Friday. 4-8-2013

Time to share what I have been working on this week. My first Mug Rug. Just a little quilt to use on a table top. I had a lot of fun working on this but, the pebbles are time consuming. Just had to have some feathers and tried out Leah Day's design that looks like geese. Oh, I almost forgot to mention the swirls.

I rounded the corners, a first for me, and the brown binding is cut on the bias. Everything is from my stash. The thread is Superior's SoFine 50.

These are the projects I need to focus on. That cute little blue face is saying I really need to get these done.

1. The upper right is the Mug Rug;

2. upper left is Dan's quilt with the hand work on the binding well along;

3. lower left is a pillow top from Craftsy's Carol Ann Wauh's Stitch and Slash class; and

4. the lower right is Charming Chevrons a quilt along at Christa's Quilt.

UFO Sunday. 2/17/2013

It's Sunday again and time to show the progress I have made in Dan's Flannel Quilt. It has been pin basted and the quilting has begun!

I am using KISS (keep it simple silly) quilting. Straight quilting in both directions using a walking foot to feed front and back at the same time.

 

Flannel quilt fron

I folded it about in half so it is wider then it looks, about 76×80. Aurifil 50 weight cotton

thread on the front in a soft mossy green.

 

Back of quilt

This is the back of the quilt. I pieced a section with left over fabric. The back thread is Superior's Bottom Line, 60 weight in a light golden yellow.

The batting is Hobb's 80/20.

FMQ Friday, Feb. 8, 2013

This week I decided I really need to sandwich and quilt a flannel quilt I started nearly 2 years ago for DS#2. It should have been a matter of sandwiching the thing but I decided it just wasn't big enough so I added 3 rows to the width. Of course that means I don't have enough backing fabric so I am working out a design for the back using left overs. From a glance it might look a little girly but his favorite color is purple, thus the lavender, but I think the golds, greens, plaids and stripes help make it more masculine.

We are having a 40th. Wedding anniversary party here on Saturday for friends so it doesn't look like I will get any quilting done then. My hopes are to finish the Flannel backing today. I might need to go to the LQS for more fabric. Maybe I will get some solid flannel and add stripes to the back, that way I could use what I already have but it would look more like it was planned instead of trying to cover up the fact I ran out of fabric. LOL

FMQ Friday Feb. 1, 2013

It is Friday again and time to check in. I did finish the binding on my Double Wedding Ring and the quilt I currently have on my bed. I am trying to figure out how to add a gallery to my blog so I can show what I have done over the years.

I outlined my Express Your Love panel and started McTavishing the hair. My goal is for it to look like flowing hair so you can see I have drawn in some guide lines.

I used Superior's Monpoly (invisible) thread to outline. I used Vanish Light for machine basting in hopes of keeping any tucks at bay.

I also discovered there is a Flicker group for (Leah's) Free Motion Quilting and and have posted my photos there. It is a great place for progress pictures without writing a blog.
